Because Our Music Rocks!

AARP The magazine's music critic, Richard Gehr, picks five
songs music lovers will still be listening to in 100 years.
The Beach Boys "God Only Knows"
Aretha Franklin "I Never Loved a Man (The Way I Love You)"

Booker T. & the MG's "Time is Tight"

Merle Haggard "Mama Tried"

The Beatles "Strawberry Fields Forever"

Interesting choices. I can certainly say they would not have
been my first choices.  They are an interesting mix.  I do agree
the late 50's, 60's, and 70's had some of the best and classic
songs that will endure until time ends.  What do you think?
See, there are many reasons to love being 50+.

All good songs for sure, but I doubt that any of them have what it takes to be sung 100 years from now. Ironically there are probably 4 or 5 Beach Boys songs that do qualify, as well as even more than that for the Beatles. Aretha Franklin may have a couple too, and Even Merle could have one, but I doubt you'd find a Booker T song that will stand the test of time, they rarely get played now.

Out of all of those perhaps Strawberry Fields. The rest, I can't imagine will stand the test of time. But it is fun listening to these.

I agree with you WT. I would have chosen all different ones. The era though was classic.

I have to admit, "God only knows" is one of my favorite songs of all times. I can't get enough of it. (I even used it in a slideshow for my sons first birthday)

Otherwise, as someone who didn't grow up anywhere near these songs, I really find the other choices strange. Other Beatles songs certainly should have been on there!

Allison: I agree. The choices are wide. I will put some of my choices up in a few days.
