Fun Monday-Breaking the Mold

Jill over at Lil Mouse is hosting Fun Monday.  

What happened the day you were born? Did you ever think about what your birthday shares with the rest of the years in your life? What happened then a tragedy, a funny stunt, or a sports phenomenon?

My birthday was August 4th, 1957.  I was born on a Sunday in Enid, Oklahoma at 8:10 pm.  I was born in St. Mary's Hospital.                                                                                                                                                                  Here are some happenings on that day.

Births:

Lady Elizabeth Bowes-Lyon- Queen Elizabeth, the Queen Mother was born on this day in 1900.

Louis Armstrong was born on this day in 1901.

Percy Bysshe Shelley was born in 1792 on this day.

And last but not least the President of the United States, Barack Obama, was born on this day in 1961.

Here are some events (tragic ones) that happened on August 4th.

In 1892, Lizzie Borden axed her step-mother and her father 40 whacks!

Anne Frank and her family were captured in their annex by the German gestapo.

The First World War began on this day in 1914.

The number one song hit on this day was "Teddy Bear" by Elvis Presley.

The best picture was "The Bridge over the River Kwai" starring William Holden.  I always wondered why I loved this movie!

 
And how could I forget the best reminder of my birth year? The 1957 Chevrolet Bel Air?   We are both classic models.  

Remembering September 11th

Happy Birthday to Jason, my nephew.
He just happened to be born on September 11, 1979.

He's not in Iraq now.  He was there for

one year though finding land mines for

the Army.  I am proud of him.  And thankful

for his courage.

Believe me this may not look like a great cake, but it

tasted delicious.  I made chocolate buttercream frosting 

and it was moist.  Yum!

Speaking of birthdays

I had my 50th birthday this year. My children gave me a surprise birthday a week early and it did surprise me. Sadly, my dad had passed away two days before the party, but the kids decided to go ahead with the party to cheer me up. With the family coming over, I just assumed it was a get together for comfort and guess what? it was a comfort. We all enjoyed being together and also got to play with my darling niece, my brother Kenny's grandchild.



Life is definitely a blessing and having birthdays means you're still around to enjoy it. Hold your loved ones closely and remember to tell them that you love them. My dad's last words to me were,"you know that I love you," and it was hard not to cry. I said,"Yes, daddy, I know that you love me." And I do know it.

My new car

After driving a mini-van for 14 years, I finally got to upgrade to a new car. This one really is an upgrade! A 2007 BMW 328i. All the kids are in college and I don't drive anyone around anymore. It was useful to move kids to college though!! I do miss it occasionally when shopping for groceries, but not that much. This car also was purchased two days before my birthday so I am calling it my birthday present. Now this was not just any birthday, but my 50th. Hard to believe, huh? LOL. It's true, I was born a '57 model, came out in August. My mother gave me the middle name June, not for the month, but after her. She was born in June though. That's why I'm known as Junebug, that's what my dad called me. Anyway, I am happy with my present, just wish my dad were around to see it.
