Mothers and Daughters

 My son took our photo for us, he does not enjoy being in a photo.  
Flowers, cards, a rose, and presents.  I fixed fried chicken, potato salad, baked beans, coleslaw, biscuits, and gravy for lunch.  We had a nice day together.  My mother got to hold her new great-grandson the evening before.  That would be my nephew pictured a few posts ago.

The Picture of Dorian Gray

My husband acted in high school.  Here he was Dorian Gray.  I always loved watching the high school perform plays.  That got us out of class to watch.  Bonus!  But I especially liked this guy (second from the left).  I even bought these photos from the year book because I liked him so much.  He didn't know it at the time.  I was a sophomore and he was a senior.  He only noticed me when I would walk down the Cotton Gin Road to my house from town or the high school.  He had a friend in his band that lived a quarter of a mile past my house.  There were times he would give me a ride when I was walking to work at the nursing home.  I had one cute uniform with a fitted waist.  I surely did like that uniform.

I liked seeing him in a caveman suit.  I had to check out his legs!

Wordless Wednesday-Dunes

They are pulling a dune slowly.

I am standing on top of my four-wheeler for this video. You really don't get a good grasp of how tall these dunes are until you are there. They are from 80 to 100 feet tall.  We're at the top of a dune and those four-wheelers are at the top of another dune.  The dune drops off just on the other side of the orange buggy.  We rode the tops of many dunes.  It is marvelous fun!

$500 Wild Horse Adoption Incentive Program

This week-end in Kellyville, Oklahoma is an event to adopt wild mustangs by the Bureau of Land Management.  The news on Channel 2 said that 80 horses would be up for adoption on the spot if you qualify.  You must prove you have the space and a coral for the horse.  If you adopt a one-to-four year old horse, you pay $125.  If you adopt a horse that is four years old or more and keep it in good health for one year the government will pay you $500.  Interested?  Go here for Kellyville information: Wild Horse & Burro Adoption Heading to Kellyville, OK, May 7-9!  

Colonoscopy

Today I took my husband to get a colonoscopy.  He prepared for it starting on Saturday afternoon eating only jello and clear liquids.  Then the fun began on Sunday afternoon with the solution taken to clean you out.  Several hours later, mission accomplished!  

You know what?  They even give you color photos of your colon.  I'm sure you don't want to see them.  Butt, he was given a good bill of health.  No need for another test for ten more years.  

New Great-Nephew

My new great-nephew Lincoln.  He weighed 8 lbs. 11 oz.  22 inches long.

Little Sahara

We will be headed to Little Sahara this week-end to play with our new dune buggy.  Our son will be going with us.  We've got a house located right next to the dunes rented.  We can ride right from the house to the dunes.  It is really fun to ride at night with twinkle lights on top.

I made the little black vinyl top for the buggy.  It snaps on and off.  It will be a great help with the sun.  
We'll be taking one of our four-wheelers too.

Luna Moth

Luna adult moths only live a week and they don't eat.  Their purpose in life is to mate and lay eggs for the future generations.  He/she is very colorful and pretty.  Here is a video about their life cycle:

The Courageous Heart of Irena Sendler

I watched "The Courageous Heart of Irena Sendler" last night.  What a wonderful, heroic woman!  What an inspiration she is!  I loved the movie.  I had never heard of her before.  


During World War II, Irena Sendler worked for a unit of the Polish underground, Zegota, which was formed to help Jewish children in hiding. As a health worker, Sendler had access to the Warsaw Ghetto. In 1942 and 1943, she led some 2,500 children—twice as many people as Oskar Schindler—out of the ghetto to safe hiding places, the Jewish Virtual Library explains.

Dubbed the “Female Schindler,” Sendler saved babies and children while wearing a Star of David armband to show solidarity with her Jewish protectorates, wrote the Daily Telegraph in its obituary of Sendler. She was technically a welfare worker, distributing medicine and supplies in the Warsaw Ghetto, but she simultaneously “formulated extraordinary schemes to spirit children to safety,” according to the Daily Telegraph.

Students from rural Kansas discover a Catholic woman who saved Jewish children. Few had heard of Irena Sendlerowa in 1999. Now after 250 presentations of Life in a Jar, a web site with huge usage and world-wide media attention, Irena is known to the world. How did this beautiful story develop? Read below for the answers.

In the fall of 1999, a rural Kansas teacher encouraged four students to work on a year-long National History Day project which would, among other things, extend the boundaries of the classroom to families in the community, contribute to history learning, teach respect and tolerance, and meet our classroom motto, “He who changes one person, changes the world entire.”

Three ninth graders, Megan Stewart, Elizabeth Cambers, and Jessica Shelton, and an eleventh grader, Sabrina Coons, accepted the challenge and decided to enter their project in the National History Day program (Eventually a number of other male and female students were added to the project). The teacher showed them a short clipping from a March 1994 issue of News and World Report, which said, "Irena Sendler saved 2,500 children from the Warsaw Ghetto in 1942-43." He told the girls the article might be a typographical error, since he had not heard of this woman or story. The students began their research and looked for primary and secondary sources throughout the year.

Fun Monday

Jil at The Adventures of Lil Mouse is the hostess this week.  "Today’s Fun Monday Topic: Strange Dreams. Do you have any dreams, particularly recurrent ones that you feel no one else has? Or, just tell us about an odd dream you had as a kid."

I have a recurring dream that probably other folks have had but it is indeed strange to me.  I will be looking for a bathroom and I am usually in a big old mansion and the bathrooms are very weird.  They are also very disgusting and dirty and overflowing.  But the weirdest bathrooms are not really toilets. They will be chairs and not have any plumbing.  I sit on these chairs and think "how can I go on a chair?" And they are never private.  Somebody always comes and interrupts me and I can never go!  It's hilarious since it's only a dream but it wouldn't be if it were real life.  I also carry this dream to many other buildings too.  There will be schools and hotels and shopping malls.  Public bathrooms with tons of toilets (all crappy)  and open to everyone with no doors.  I search and I search and no one helps me and I think I've finally found a private spot, but no!  The ones without plumbing are the worst!  Can you imagine?  I hope not.
